Silver Medal At Nautica South Beach Tri
April 20, 2011
The Nautica South Beach Tri was a RIOT!! The weather was perfect. The winds were at most 4-6 miles an hour out of the SE. Which meant we had to swim into the current & the wind. There were over 2100 racers on the beach at 6am. The sunrise was gorgeous and the energy was electric. The water was relatively calm compared to last year.
The cannon went off and my group headed to the water. It was low tide so I could run in waist deep water almost the the 1st buoy, which was 80yrds straight out from the beach. At that buoy we hung a right to swim parallel to the beach for 1/2 mile. Well running in the water was a bad idea. I was huffing and puffing by the time I had to start swimming, and my swim rhythm was off... took me 300 yds to get back into the groove.
My transition to bike was fast, and I hit the pavement on my Truth with 2.0 Kenda slicks on. The bike went well, it was 19 miles around Miami and Miami Beach.
My transition to run was fast also. The run went fair. I had put extra effort into the bike to make up for my swim fiasco, which I paid a little for in the run.
When it was all said and done I had the Silver in the mtn bike div!! 6 seconds behind the leader. I was 4th in my overall age group , and 224 out of 1700+ overall!!
The next race is a Down & Dirty off road run with obstacles and mud!! fun off season stuff!
Be 'well
Peace, Pike!
